Google has launched a new feature on its video communication platform Mate that allows the host to turn off the microphone and video of selected participants. Participants cannot turn on these options again unless they have been given permission to do so by the host. If you do not have an iOS or Android version of the Mate app that supports the new feature, the host has the option to remove you from the call after using this feature. If you attempt to join such a call, you must first make arrangements to accept the host’s request.

Earlier this year, the company released a tool where the host could mute each participant in the call at once. In addition, TechDev has launched Live Translated Caption feature support for multiple languages. According to the company, this feature can help participants communicate better by translating a spoken language into another language in captions. Directly translated captions are initially available in beta and support English meetings translated into Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. Available at feature-organized meetings.
