Twitter now lets its paid subscribers tweet 10,000 characters

Twitter has introduced a new feature for its Blue subscribers, allowing them to tweet messages with up to 10,000 characters and include bold and italic formatting. This update provides users with a longer-form writing experience, resembling essays rather than the traditional short snippets associated with Twitter’s 140-character limit, which was increased to 280 characters in 2017.

Twitter Blue is a subscription-based product that offers additional features beyond the free version, including a coveted blue checkmark, and is priced at $8 per month for sign-ups through Twitter.

In addition to the character limit update, Twitter is expanding its monetization options by allowing users to subscribe to their favorite content creators in exchange for exclusive subscriber-only content, similar to services like Substack. Twitter CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that creators will receive the majority of subscription income, with percentages varying depending on the platform and payment processor.

Elon Musk, who also serves as the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has even launched his own subscription product, charging $4 per month for access to his private subscription-only Tweets, while outlining his goal of maximizing creator prosperity through fee reductions and promotional support.
