Nothing OS 4.0 has officially begun rolling out, bringing a refined, faster, and more visually cohesive experience to Nothing devices. Built on the strong foundation of OS 3.0, this update focuses heavily on what truly shapes day-to-day use: speed, fluidity, and consistent design. The system feels lighter, cleaner, and more responsive—created with the intention of removing small points of friction that get in the way of a smooth mobile experience.
Icons have been reimagined with a calmer, more minimal look. Animations feel snappier and more precise. UI components follow a clearer structure, creating a sense of order throughout the system. OS 4.0 is all about tightening the fundamentals and preparing the platform for what’s ahead.
This update wouldn’t be what it is without the Open Beta Test community. The OBT provided real-use insights that helped the team identify issues, prioritise features, and refine the final build. Each beta release targeted specific areas so Nothing could tune the experience with precision.
Feedback from testers led to several improvements—from more consistent visuals and redesigned status bar icons to a cleaner lock screen password interface and smoother system animations. Users also shared input on multitasking, inspiring enhancements like the revamped Pop-up View and new Quick Settings layouts.
Another key theme was glanceability, which guided the introduction of Live Updates on both the lock screen and the Glyph Interface. Now, tracking rides, deliveries, and timers is more seamless than ever.

As Nothing introduces deeper AI features, transparency remains a priority. The new AI Status Hints show exactly when an AI model is running, right from your status bar. An accompanying dashboard lets you review usage so you always know how and when AI is assisting you.
Phone (3) owners get a few unique experiences that make use of the device’s hardware:
Capture futuristic, stylised selfies using the Glyph Interface as a light source. These mirrored shots save directly to your Gallery for easy sharing.
When placing your phone face-down, you can now choose whether the device switches to Vibrate or Silent mode—giving you better control over distractions.
The Glyph Matrix intelligently disables while the phone is in your pocket, saving battery and preventing accidental triggers.
Two new time-themed visual experiences arrive:
• Hourglass, visualising the flow of time
• Lunar Cycle, showing the moon’s current phase above your location
Essential Memory takes the existing Essential Space and Essential Search to the next level. Instead of just storing what you save, your phone can now understand and recall it more naturally.
Save something—like an event poster tagged “April events”—and later simply ask, “What’s coming up next month?” Your phone retrieves it instantly. Essential Space stores it, Memory interprets it, and Search finds it.
This smarter memory layer will arrive soon in an upcoming Essential Space update.
The public rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 begins today for Phone (3). Other Nothing devices will receive it in the coming weeks, with CMF phones planned to follow by the end of the year. Phone (3a) Lite users can expect the update early next year.
