CoronaVirus test in the state of fasting

Like all over the world, there are many cases of corona virus in the Gulf countries including Pakistan these days and the month of Ramadan has also started on these days. In such a situation, the question of whether corona virus can be tested while fasting has become important.

The test will not break the fast and can the fast be broken in case of symptoms of corona? Many are also contacting scholars and experts for these questions.

The Chancellor of Banuria University in Karachi and Shaykh-ul-Hadeeth Mufti Muhammad Naeem told VOA that the corona virus can be tested while fasting and there is nothing wrong with that.

“Fasting is broken for a number of reasons, the most important of which is eating and drinking,” he said. But since the corona virus test does not use any medicine or any other substance that comes down the throat, the corona virus test does not break the fast.

In response to a question, he said that in case of severe illness, the fast can be broken anyway, but if you are healthy and can fast, you cannot break the fast for fear of coronavirus.

According to Mufti Naeem, just as an injection or a drip does not break the fast, a corona virus test while fasting will not break the fast.

On the other hand, the fatwa council of the United Arab Emirates also says that taking the corona test during Ramadan will not break the fast. Do not refrain from taking the corona test while fasting.

This is stated in the guidelines issued by the Fatwa Council regarding the month of Ramadan. The guidelines also state that people with symptoms of coronary heart disease can break the fast, but there is nothing wrong with taking tests during fasting.

How is the corona virus tested?
Dr. Atif Hafeez Siddiqui, a specialist in nose, ear and throat diseases, told VOA that corona virus is tested in many ways. One method is the PCR test, in which the doctor inserts a piece of cotton into the back of the patient’s nose, which absorbs the moisture in the nose into the cotton, which is tested.

According to Dr. Atif, the second method is to obtain the patient’s saliva, which is then sent to the laboratory for testing.

He said that the cotton swab used in both the methods did not contain any medicine which would break the fast of the patient. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with testing for coronavirus while fasting.
